I listen to many different podcasts and read a lot. The Edge of the Web, Voices of Search, SEO with Mrs. Ghost… are the most preminent podcasts I guess. I listen every few days though and I write notes and pull details that I believe are important to recognize. I’ve never put these notes anywhere though.  Here is what I thought was interesting about my listening in October, so these aren’t my observations but rather what I pulled out from listening or found interesting.

The Google Core update in September really affected news, giving more credit to the original reporting source.  This is really causing a stir in news search because smaller news sources will now have the opportunity to break news. There is less credit for a recaping.the news.

There is a new tag for links — Sponsored and User Generated Content. I’m not sure what I think of these. I like to over use follow links more than I should because I feel like most links that I insert are with reason and deserve recognition. I feel like no-follow is a little bit of a punishment. These new link tags add clarity to purpose rather, but may also induce some more bias for or against the pages that use them.

Star Ranking systems have reduced their SEO strength and priority is being given to 3rd party review sites versus on-site review options. This is leaning towards removing biases from sites.

That’s my review on the SEO news that I read or heard in October.
